Transfer of Credit From Another School
Transfer of Credit - (Associate and Bachelor's Level):
Transcripts of previously completed academic work are evaluated and credit may be transferred to meet existing coursework requirements. The following guidelines are utilized when accepting transfer credit for an associate or bachelor's degree program:
- The University will accept transfer credit from applicable courses completed at colleges or universities accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or foreign equivalent.
- Students in Associate degree programs may receive transfer credit for up to 30 semester units.
- Students in Bachelor's degree programs may receive transfer credit for up to 93 semester units.
- To be eligible for undergraduate academic credit, transfer grades must be equivalent to a letter grade of C (2.0 GPA) or higher.
Transfer of Credit - (Master's and Doctoral Level):
Transcripts of previously completed master's or doctoral level academic work are evaluated and credit may be transferred to meet existing coursework requirements. The following guidelines are utilized when accepting transfer credit for a master's or doctoral level degree program:
- Master degree students may receive transfer credit for up 6 semester units of previously completed coursework.
- Doctor of Education students may receive transfer credit for up to two courses (up to 8 semester units) of previously completed coursework.
- Courses must have been completed at a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education or its foreign equivalent.
- Transfer grades earned must be equivalent to a letter grade of B (3.0 GPA) or higher.
- No specialized training or experiential learning credit can be awarded at the graduate level.
Transfer of Credit - (Certificates):
Transcripts of previously completed academic work are evaluated and credit may be transferred to meet existing coursework requirements. The following guidelines are utilized when accepting transfer credit for a certificate program:
- The University will accept transfer credit from applicable courses completed at colleges or universities accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or foreign equivalent.
- Certificate students may receive transfer credit for up to 6 semester units of previously completed coursework. Students may transfer up to 9 semester units of credit completed at California Coast University.
- To be eligible for undergraduate academic credit, transfer grades must be equivalent to a letter grade of C (2.0 GPA) or higher.
- To be eligible for graduate academic credit, transfer grades must be equivalent to a letter grade of B (3.0 GPA) or higher.
Transfer of Credit from Standardized Examinations
CCU accepts many of the CLEP® Subject Exams, DSST, and other exams for undergraduate credit. CCU accepts up to a maximum of ninety-three (93) credit hours through national standardized examinations.
Acceptable Scores and Credit:
The institution that the examinee selects for submission of exam scores determines acceptable scores and credit granted for CLEP® and DSST exams. CCU accepts the American Council on Education's "minimum score for awarding credit." CCU will award credit hours for acceptable scores, but no grades will be awarded.

CCU accepts earned credit from DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) Program. DSST is a nationally recognized testing program that provides students the opportunity to receive college credit for learning acquired outside the traditional college classroom. The program consists of exams in 47 undergraduate college courses.

CCU accepts earned credit from Excelsior College Examinations (ECE). The ECEs were formerly the Regents College Examinations (RCE), College Proficiency Examination Program (CPEP), the Regents External Degree (RED) Program, and ACT/PEP tests outside of New York. The ECEs are available in business, education, health, liberal arts and sciences, and nursing. Examination content outlines and study guides are available at no cost.

THOMAS EDISON COLLEGE EXAMINATION PROGRAMS (TECEP®) credit:
CCU accepts earned credit from the Thomas Edison State College Examination Program (TECEP). These examinations, known as TECEP® tests, are specifically designed to permit students to demonstrate the college-level knowledge they have gained through work, personal interests, or independent study by taking a single examination. TECEP® examinations are available in a wide range of business and liberal arts subjects such as psychology, management, English composition, and marketing.

NEW YORK UNIVERSITY - NYU - SCPS Foreign Language Proficiency Exam tests:
CCU accepts earned credit for the New York University (NYU) language exams. The amount of credit depends on your score on the test and the credit recommendation from NYU. Exams are offered in many languages; check the website for the complete list and prices. These tests can be taken at locations outside of New York City, but you must make arrangements to have the test proctored by a college faculty member, administrator, or government official.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM (AP) credit:
CCU accepts earned credit from Advanced Placement (AP) examinations for which a grade of three or better has been achieved. Exams are administered to high school students in over a dozen different college subjects. If you have taken AP examinations, you need to provide official score reports sent from College Board to CCU Office of Admissions.
